Data protection
Under data protection law, Barnardo’s needs your consent to process your personal data for the purpose of the Couple’s Counselling Support for Adopters and Special Guardians Service. The data will be released by the Trust to Barnardo’s.
Barnardo’s has agreed to capture, store, manage and process Personal Data and Special Category Data on behalf of the Trust for the purpose of the Couple’s Counselling Service.
Your data will be shared in order for Barnardo’s to provide you couples a therapeutic programme of support via virtual (telephone) session
You are not obliged to provide this information; if you refuse you will not receive this support provided by Barnardo’s but if you do not wish to provide your data, it will not affect any other services you are accessing through Birmingham Children’s Trust.
If you do consent to share your personal data, you are able to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting Birmingham Children’s Trust or Barnardo’s on the details provided below.
Who we are
Birmingham Children’s Trust and Barnardo’s shall be joint data controllers of the shared protected data.

How information about you will be used
Purposes of the processing for which the personal data are intended (Article 13(1)(c))
Your information will be processed by Birmingham Children’s Trust and Barnardo’s so that you can be provided with Couple’s Counselling.
Birmingham Children’s Trust will provide Barnardo’s with the following data, including special category data, so that they can provide this therapeutic intervention:
- Adopter/SGOs contact details:
- Telephone number
- Email address
- Postal address
- Details of the family:
- Name, DOB of child/ren
- Names of parent(s)/carer(s)
- How long since the child(ren) were placed
- Placing LA Date of adoption order (unless SGO)
- If over 3 years from Adoption Order
- LA in which they live
- Other children in the family – ages and details
The Trust will complete a referral form with the personal data listed above – in this case the both parties shall be data controllers and processors.
Birmingham Children’s Trust and Barnardo’s shall have responsibility for the legality, reliability, integrity, accuracy and quality of the personal data of registered adopters utilising the Couple’s Counselling Service.

Your Rights
You are entitled to know what personal data Birmingham Children’s Trust is processing about you. If you want to obtain the data, or if you want to exercise any of your other rights about the processing of the data.

You have the right to:
- have your personal data corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete
- ask for your personal data used for this purpose to be erased (even if you have previously given consent for the data to be processed by the Trust
- ask for your personal data to be supplied in a commonly used format, where the processing is carried out by automated means, so it can be sent to another organisation
You can also ask for the processing of your personal data to be restricted if:
- it is inaccurate
- it is unlawful but you do not want it to be deleted
- it is due to be deleted but you require it kept because of a legal claim
- you have objected to the processing of the data and you are waiting for a decision about the objection
You can ask the Trust to stop processing your data at any time by withdrawing your consent. You can do this by contacting the Trust’s adoption service or Data Protection Officer.
