Birmingham has a long history of welcoming adoption and fostering application from members of the LGBTQ+ community. In fact one in four of our adopters identifies as LGBTQ+ which is well above the national average of 7%.
"We chose Birmingham Children’s Trust because it was so clear that you would welcome me and my wife". Kathy, Birmingham Children's Trust adopter.
Although the numbers of LGBTQ+ individuals and couples coming forward to adopt and foster, New Family Social reports that many members of the community still expect discrimination from adoption and fostering agencies.
LGBT+ adoption and fostering week is a great opportunity to encourage more LGBTQ+ people to consider if adoption or fostering could be right for them.
Build your family
The week celebrates both adoption and fostering as fantastic pathways for LGBTQ+ people to build their families.
Birmingham Children's Trust has always welcomed people of all sexualities and gender identities to become adoptive parents or foster carers.
Kathy, a recent adopter with Birmingham Children’s Trust said "We chose Birmingham Children’s Trust because it was so clear that you would welcome me and my wife. We felt represented on the website and our concerns were listened to when we made our enquiry".
